Alexander Perez
Dr. Perez serves Lake-Sumter State College as the Department Chair for English, Reading, Speech, Journalism and Communications. In addition to his work as Department Chair, Dr. Perez leads the College Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) as the Program Manager of Developmental Studies.  He oversees the successful implementation of the QEP and reports program outcomes to the College accrediting body, the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools-Commission on Colleges.

Dr. Perez teaches composition and literature courses based out of the South Lake Center.  He has been a Florida Department of Education certified professional educator since 1993, starting his career teaching high school English in Palm Beach, Miami-Dade, and Monroe County, Florida Public Schools. He has also taught at Miami-Dade College, Florida Keys Community College, and the University of Phoenix.
 
His work has been nationally recognized with an Excellence in Teaching Award by the National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development, an Exemplary Use of Technology in the Classroom Award from the Association of Florida Colleges, Teacher of the Quarter Award from the Monroe County Chamber of Commerce, and he has garnered nominations for the Association of Florida Colleges Professor of the Year Competition by his LSSC colleagues.  
 
Dr. Perez completed his bachelor's degree in English at the University of Vermont where he was a recipient of the distinguished Buckham Overseas Scholarship, enabling him to spend one year studying the life and literature of Charles Dickens at the University of Kent at Canterbury England.  Dr. Perez completed his master’s degree in English at Teachers College Columbia University​His doctoral research at the University of Phoenix School of Advanced Studies was a qualitative study using a narrative inquiry design to examine educator satisfaction and retention in Florida K-12 public schools
