Veterans Services

We are proud to assist those who have served in our country's armed forces. LSSC is available to assist you in receiving educational benefits from the Department of Veterans Affairs, as you pursue your educational goals at Lake-Sumter State College.
 
Our goal is to provide educational benefit services to eligible veterans, dependents, national guardsmen and reservists. We are also available to assist you in other areas to help assure your academic success.

Educational Benefits and Policies

 Veteran Educational Benefits Policies contains detailed information including:

  • Review the Registration and Certification process

    First Time in College Students: follow Enrollment Steps to get started at LSSC, including attending the required new student orientation - SOAR Parts I and II. Submit an official high school transcript and a military service transcript to the Admission Office for evaluation as soon as possible.
    Transfer Students: complete a LSSC application and submit all official transcripts (from all schools attended after high school), an official high school transcript and required military service transcript to the Admission Office for evaluation, prior to meeting with the VA Academic Advisor.
  • Military Transcripts - all veterans must submit a military service transcript (free)
  • Learn about Fee Deferment, Academic Progress, and Tutoring Assistance
  • Arrange to meet with the VA Academic Advisor

    All students using VA benefits will meet with the VA Academic Advisor each semester to review an academic plan and complete VA paperwork after registering for the next semester's classes. To make an appointment, call 352-365-3574.

    Updates for Veterans Using Educational Benefits:

      *The Financial Aid Guide for Miliitary Servicemembers and their families includes how to fill out FAFSA as a veteran and maximize the federal financial aid package.

    • Visit the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs GI Bill website for additional information regarding educational benefits. Connect with the VA soical media team on Facebook.

    • VA will pay for students to take developmental courses in a fully seated delivery only, if required.

    • Ch 33/Ch 31: to receive the housing funding students must take at least one fully seated class with 100% face to face delivery each semester. Students must take at least 7 credits each semester to receive housing allowance.

    The Leesburg campus has a Veterans Lounge in Lake Hall R 102. This dedicated space is for students who are Veterans or Active Military.
