Lake-Sumter Community College

Welcome

Lake-Sumter State College welcomes international students interested in pursuing an associate or bachelor’s degree on an F-1 visa. While going to college far from home is exciting – it also may be a bit intimidating. At LSSC, we work hard to make sure you feel at home.

Why International Students Choose LSSC

LSSC is Affordable

At LSSC, the cost of attendance consistently is lower than private and public universities. Plus, students in Lake and Sumter Counties enjoy a relatively low cost of living and inexpensive public transportation via LakeXpress and Sumter County Transit. Additionally, the LSSC Foundation offers more than $500,000 in scholarships each year!

LSSC Offers a Variety of Programs

LSSC challenges students with a mix of several programs – all of which develop new perspectives, skills, and opportunities. LSSC faculty members are accomplished in their fields and bring real-world experience and knowledge to the classroom. Altogether, LSSC faculty members and advisors are skilled, supportive, and always challenging students to higher levels of thought and action.

Additionally, LSSC partners with the University of Central Florida to offer DirectConnect to UCF – a nationally-recognized program that guarantees entry into UCF for LSSC students who complete an A.A. at LSSC. Through the DirectConnect program, LSSC graduates can gain accelerated admission to UCF and enhanced advising and transfer assistance from UCF staff at LSSC’s Leesburg and South Lake campuses. UCF, the nation’s second-largest public university with more than 60,000 students, offers more than 200 degrees and is known for significant contributions to engineering, optics, simulation, digital media, education, and hospitality management. Many students who plan to eventually earn a degree from UCF begin their academic careers at LSSC via the DirectConnect program.

LSSC is Enjoyable

LSSC’s faculty and student services staff members provide an extraordinary level of support and service to international students, from initial help navigating the application to ongoing advising to career development services. LSSC Lakehawks compete in the National Junior Collegiate Athletic Association with three teams: men’s baseball, women’s softball, and women’s volleyball. Plus, with several recognized student organizations, student life at LSSC is fun and engaging.
