Welcome to my home page! My name is Kathie Larke and I am a nursing instructor at Lake-Sumter State College.

My office is on the South Lake campus in room 1-154. My phone number is 352.536.2151. My preferred method of contact is via email at My office hours vary related to our classroom, exam and meeting schedules so please check my office door for my current schedule.

I teach Nursing Foundations, Alterations in Health and Management of Care in the First year of the nursing program.

The "alphabet soup" after my name means that I have a Master of Science in Nursing, a Master of Arts in Educational Leadership and I am Board Certified as a Nursing Professional Development educator by the American Nurses Credentialing Center.

I am a transplant from Central CT where I taught at Capital Community College in Hartford. I'm a jill-of- all- trades having worked in acute care where I was a staff nurse, preceptor and nurse educator at Middlesex Hospital (CTs 1st Magnet hospital), long term care and home care. I am passionate about nursing fundamentals, geriatric nursing and care of the pulmonary client.

My philosophy of education is "You're never too old to learn and you're never too young to teach."

My faculty teaching/learning project is examining the use of social media to develop analytical and critical thinking skills in nursing students. I am hooked on Twitter! Follow me @LisaRaeLSSC

In my spare time I read (books, professional journals and my Twitter feed), garden, drink tea, relish my Irish heritage and acquire frequent flyer miles visiting my 2 boys. Dan is a film maker in LA and Tim is a scholar/athlete (wrestling) at Rhode Island College.
