2018 Major Gifts

Jacobsen Foundation Gift to Bachelor of Science in Nursing

The Hans & Cay Jacobsen Foundation was created by Mrs. Jacobsen to support the couple's shared charitable causes. Having been a nurse in her early years, Mrs. Jacobsen has been a generous provider of nursing scholarships to LSSC students. In 2018, the Jacobsen Foundation announced a significant gift to LSSC in support of the new Bachelor of Science in Nursing, expected to enroll students in Fall 2018.

Virginia Durand Nursing Simulation Center

Lake-Sumter State College was able to purchase a high-fidelity manikin with a donation by Mr. Robert Durand, in memory of his wife Virginia, a nurse who dedicated her life to helping others.

Using high-fidelity manikins that mimic human responses and current healthcare technology in realistic patient settings, LSSC nursing students have the opportunity to problem solve these real-life scenarios without posing any risk to real patients. During a simulation, trained faculty offer students experiences that reflect what registered nurses experience daily.
