Lake-Sumter Community College

Student Ambassador

Goals and Objectives

The Lake-Sumter State College Ambassador Program began in 1987 as a method for providing leadership experience for students and tangible support for LSSC functions. Ambassadors are offered special opportunities to explore their leadership and service potentials through an accelerated personal development program. Ambassadors serve in a variety of capacities and participate in training opportunities unique to the community college setting. Each semester, in compensation for their service, Ambassadors receive a stipend through the Lake-Sumter State College Foundation, Inc.

To be eligible for the Ambassador program, students must have a minimum 3.0 GPA (cumulative average) during the semester they apply for admittance to the program. The GPA will be determined by the most recent college grade report or high school transcript. Once accepted, Ambassadors must maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA in order to remain in good standing. Continued standing in the program will be determined by the Ambassador’s GPA at the start of each semester and by evaluations of his/her performance in the program. Ambassadors must maintain a caring, service-oriented attitude with respect to the college and program objectives. This attitude is represented in a willingness to attend all program training sessions and serve in capacities deemed appropriate by the program Coordinator. Continued academic progress toward each student’s goal is central to the philosophy of the Ambassador program. Students are encouraged to apply only if they believe the program and service commitment will enhance their educational goals without hindering academic progress.

LSSC Ambassadors are student representatives of Lake-Sumter State College. They enjoy unique leadership opportunities and special advantages for personal enrichment and development. Ambassadors are expected to conduct themselves as campus leaders, exhibiting the behavior expected of a college representative. Students should exhibit a service-oriented attitude, a desire to meet and greet campus visitors, and a willingness to assist campus guests and other persons interested in LSSC. Personal grooming, attitude, habits, and speaking ability should be of the highest caliber.

College Duties

Ambassadors perform various duties and services as LSSC representatives. Their duties include, but are not limited to, learning and leading the LSSC Campus Tour, ushering at Performing Arts Series functions and other events, representing the college in outreach capacities, meeting and greeting campus visitors, working in college offices, assisting with receptions and special events, and participating in all mandatory student leadership and Ambassador training sessions.
