New Leadership Program
Aides in Training (AIT)
 
Purpose: The Aides in Training (AIT) program will replace the Volunteer Program offered in previous years providing additional leadership training and experiences.

Who:
 Students going into 10th-12th grades can apply to become an AIT. No experience is necessary, however an appropriate attitude is required. A limited number of AITs will be selected for each two-week program.

What: A work-oriented volunteer experience, which gives teens the opportunity to assist Kids' College instructors, staff and students, helping to create a safe and positive atmosphere for the participants. AITs will receive leadership & safety training, conflict resolution, public service hours and more!

Dates:        Leesburg: June 3 - 13  ~ June 17 - 27  ~ July 8 - 18                            

                        Clermont: June 10 - 20  ~ June 24 - July 3  ~ July 8 - 18

Times: 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Days:   Mondays - Thursdays

Fees:    $75 - AITs may be selected for no more than 2 sessions per year.

Requirements: 1. Submit completed application, 2. submit two personal recommendations, 3. if selected, attend an office interview, 4. pay the $75 fee,  and 5. attend the mandatory orientation for the selected campus:

  • Leesburg Campus: May 30, 2019 from 2:00-4:30 p.m. at Lake Sumter State College, 9501 US Hwy 441, Leesburg, FL 34788 in the Magnolia Room.

  • Clermont Campus: June 7, 2019 from 1:30-4:00 p.m. at Lake Sumter State College, 1250 N. Hancock Rd., Clermont, FL 34711 in CML-108A/B.

Why: Earn 75 hours of volunteer public service hours per session for the Florida Bright Futures Scholarship Program, job applications, college applications and other scholarships. This is a great way to learn how to become a leader in your community and assist in providing youth with an opportunity to explore their interests and learn new skills.

Additional Benefits:  Participants of the AIT program will be eligible to apply for a paid position as a Program Aide upon high school graduation.
