As part of identifying the signs of healthy and unhealthy relationships, two resources to be aware of are the ‘Equality Wheel’
and the ‘Power and Control Wheel’
developed by the Domestic Abuse Intervention Project, Duluth, Minnesota.
The ‘Equality Wheel’ highlights essential elements of a healthy relationship where equality is at the center while boundaries help establish and set limits for ourselves.
The ‘Power and Control Wheel’ describes the signs of unhealthy relationships and the strategies, including violence, the abuser utilizes to demonstrate power and control over a partner.

#valentinesday #studentwellness #LSSCLSSC Students in Tallahassee!
Student leaders from our Student Government Associations joined Dr. Byrd, Interim President, and Dr. Mews, VP Student Affairs, to visit our state capitol to meet with legislators, tour the historic building, and gain insight into Florida’s state government.
This experience provided our student leaders with a firsthand look at the legislative process and an opportunity to advocate for the needs of Lake-Sumter State College.
A special highlight of the trip was a dinner with our legislative delegation and staff, where students engaged in meaningful conversations about higher education, leadership, and the future. Experiences like these empower our students to be active voices for their community and future!
Shout out to our Government Affairs Manager, Bruce Duncan, for arranging these experiences. And a huge thank you to our representatives for their time and support!Celebrating Heart Month

When thinking about the daily interactions with those around you, it is helpful to recognize and understand your own communication style.
Intentionally engaging in healthy communication takes practice.
It is also important to be aware that in relationships—whether with a partner, friend, coworker, or family—conflict is inevitable and can be healthy to a certain extent.Learning how to manage conflict in a respectful, healthy way can help support positive relationships.

#buildingthefuture #LSSC #educationandindustry #BCNProgramFrom the Office of Student Wellness: During the winter months when there is less daylight, it’s normal to have some days when you feel down.
However, if this feeling lasts for extended periods of time and you are unable to become motivated to engage in your usual activities, it’s important to see your medical provider as this may be a sign of Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD). Click the link in the bio to learn more about SAD.
#MentalHealthMatters #SelfCare #SeasonalWellness #BeatTheWinterBluesFrom the Office of Student Wellness: Perfectionism is not an attainable goal, especially when it comes to academic performance.
Rather, shifting towards healthy striving allows for a more realistic perspective and approach.
This means establishing practical goals and striving for excellence, not perfection.
Experiencing a few set-backs does not undue all the progress you have made and will continue to make while working towards a goal.
