Academic Advising

Academic Advisors help students navigate their educational journey by providing guidance on course selection, degree requirements, and academic planning. They assist students in setting and achieving academic goals, understanding institutional policies, and accessing campus resources.

Academic Calendar

The Academic Calendar provides important dates and deadlines for each semester including start and end dates, examination dates, holidays and breaks, fee payment deadlines, and course registration timelines.

Campus Safety

LSSC provides armed security services to maintain a safe and secure environment on all campus locations. Services include patrolling campus, responding to emergencies, managing access control, offering safety escorts, and responding to emergencies.

Canvas

Canvas is a cloud-based learning management system that helps students access lessons, submit work and participate in class discussions. It creates an engaging and collaborative learning environment and supports real-time feedback and grading.

Career Development Services

Helps students and alumni explore career paths, develop professional skills, and secure employment opportunities. Their goal is to prepare students for a successful transition from college to the workforce or further education.

Course Syllabus Search

Lake-Sumter State College utilizes an online syllabus system called Concourse. Your course syllabus can be accessed in each of your Canvas courses by clicking Concourse Syllabus in the course’s navigation or using this search feature.

Credit for Prior Learning

Credit awarded to students for knowledge and skills they have gained outside of traditional academic settings. This may include work experience, military training, professional certifications, or other educational experiences.

A degree auditing tool used by colleges and universities to help students and advisors monitor academic progress toward degree completion. It provides a clear, interactive audit that shows completed courses, current enrollment, and remaining degree requirements.

Associate in Arts - DirectConnect to UCF

Lake-Sumter State College is proud to partner with the University of Central Florida to offer the DirectConnect to UCF® program to LSSC students. This nationally recognized program provides guaranteed admission and a smooth transition from LSSC to UCF after completing your Associate in Arts (A.A.) degree.

Dual Enrollment Programs - Dual Enrollment

Dual enrollment is a type of Early College Program that allows secondary students to take postsecondary coursework and simultaneously earn credit toward a high school diploma, a career certificate, an industry certification, or an associate or baccalaureate degree at a Florida public or eligible private institution.

Dual Enrollment Programs

Florida Residency

Determines whether a student qualifies for in-state tuition rates or must pay out-of-state tuition. To be considered a Florida resident, students (and their parents, if dependent) must demonstrate domicile in Florida for at least 12 consecutive months before the first day of classes.

Lakehawk Athletics

Lake-Sumter State College Athletics, known as Lakehawk Athletics, competes in the NJCAA and offers a range of sports including baseball, softball, volleyball, golf, and track. The official student email account provided by the college. It serves as the primary communication tool for students, allowing them to receive important updates, announcements, and messages from faculty, staff, and campus departments.

Lakehawks’ Harvest Food Pantry

Lakehawks’ Harvest Food Pantry at Lake-Sumter State College, in partnership with Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida and Lake Cares, is a resource available to all currently enrolled students who may be facing food insecurity. Lakehawks’ Harvest Food Pantry is a safe, confidential and judgment-free space.

An essential resource on campus that provides students, faculty, and staff access to the Florida College and University System holdings, including books, academic journals, electronic databases, computers, printing, and other learning materials. It offers study spaces, research assistance, and often hosts workshops or events to support academic success.

Order of The Lakehawk

Formerly, the “President’s Award,” the Order of the Lakehawk is the most prestigious and significant honor that a student may receive at Lake-Sumter State College. This honor recognizes outstanding academic achievement, dedicated college involvement, and significant community service.

Orientation

NSAR is a program at Lake-Sumter State College that helps new students successfully transition into college life. Through NSAR, students receive personalized advising, guidance on course selection, and assistance with the registration process.

Parking and Traffic

Required decals are issued to LSSC student free of charge. Decals are required for all enrolled students and become invalid once a student no longer is enrolled.

Registrar & Transcript Services

Handles student academic records and official documents, including transcript processing, transcript requests, and transcripts management. The office verifies enrollment, awards degrees, manages graduation applications, processes name changes, and ensures accurate and secure maintenance of transcripts and other academic records throughout the college experience.

Report a Concern

A centralized location to report a variety of concerns. This includes referrals to the LSSC Care Team, the Student Assistance Program, anonymous reporting, student conduct incidents, and academic integrity violations.

Sumter County provides food assistance programs to help residents facing food insecurity, including access to local pantries, soup kitchens, and SNAP resources. Additional services include rent and utility help, free and subsidized healthcare, transportation aid, and emergency support.

Technology Help Desk
