Fast-Track Your Education: High School Students Can Earn Associate's Degrees
The Sumter County Early College Academy provides a fast-track program to a college degree (AA). The Early College Academy is a structured dual enrollment program that provides students an opportunity to acquire their associate’s degree or college credit certificate through a cohort class model. Students join the program with a group of students and take a predetermined sequence of courses that will eventually lead to an associate’s degree or certificate. This program has a general track for students wanting to get an AA and an AICE track for students wanting to get their AA along with their AICE diploma.

Overview
The Sumter County Early College Academy provides a fast-track program to an Associate of Arts (A.A.) degree through a structured dual enrollment model. Students join a cohort and follow a predetermined sequence of courses, earning their associate’s degree or college credit certificate. The program features two tracks: a general track for an A.A. degree and an AICE track for an A.A. degree along with an AICE diploma. Students can take up to 18 credits per semester while in high school and participate in the annual Early College Summit and Early College Day.

Career Outlook
Having the ability to take some college classes or even completing their AA, students are afforded the ability to start full time in their chosen career choice up to 2 year earlier than they would have had they done high school the traditional way. Early college students are also more likely to enroll in college and earn their next college degree than students in comparable groups.Admission Requirements
- Entering 9th or 10th grade at SSHS or WMHS
- Committed to completing a full AA degree while completing high school graduation requirements
- AICE Track only- Must be accepted into a high school AlCE program
- For continued program eligibility, 11th-12th graders must maintain a 3.0 high school GPA and meet minimum scores on PERT exam to take full-time dual enrollment courses.
